I would suggest putting the identifier info inside the file name, and not making up a new file extension. ".ffp" tells the operating system that a file contains flac fingerprints. ".ffp16" is probably not a known extension. I use the format Band2008-02-10-FLAC16.ffp and Band2008-02-10-FLAC24-info.txt to make such distinctions. It's a pet peeve of mine that so many filesets have files called simply shntool.txt, because I like to use DOWN-THEM-ALL to grab lots of shows at once into a common directory.
